New video system installation

Updated: Jan 6, 2020

Church of the Revelation, Bronx, NY recently completed a new video system installation in their sanctuary. The new system consists of 4 Panasonic 4K PTZ cameras with remote control, 2 Sony 4K cameras - one stationery and the other equipped with Teradek wireless transmitters, and a Blackmagic Design Atem switcher for broadcast control.

The new system, which replaced an old 2-camera SD system will be used weekly to record and live stream their multiple worship services and special events. As part of the video update, Mickella Solutions was able to enhance the lighting system with focus specifically for video. Additionally, audience microphones were added to the sound system to improve the quality of the experience for online viewers. The video booth was also relocated.

Because of the age of the old wiring, this install needed all new wiring, which was needed for the much higher bandwidth of the HD cameras. Although the current TV monitors were not replaced, the updated cabling now meant that the TVs would receive a higher resolution signal (we went from standard def on VGA, to High Def with HDMI cabling). All cameras, and computers were connected to the Atem switcher via SDI. All components of the system were selected to ensure that the video ministry was future-equipped for next-gen broadcast formats. Although they are currently broadcasting and recording in 720HD, they can switch to 4K when they are ready.
